Greetings from Afghanistan! First I want to thank you for all those years of
training that has made my life here easier and also made me a better
soldier. The terrain here is probably the most rugged on earth.
It's basically all mountains, and with 40 pounds of body armor, and a 40-pound
backpack on top of that, getting to the top is no small task---and one always
accompanied by injuries, dehydration, and heat exhaustion. I’m happy to
say that I’ve been on many missions out in these mountains and never held up
the mission due to injury or exhaustion. But I have at times taken on
extra weight when others couldn’t handle it, and have helped carry Soldiers and
Marines to the medical evacuation helicopter when they could no longer go
on. I have kept in the best shape possible, time permitting, but I
will always attribute my endurance to my 9 years of training with you
Sensei, and everyone I've trained with at Koei Kan Karate Do.

Although I don't regret the choices that I made for physical activity before
Karate in my life, I often wonder what levels of physical conditioning that I
could have attained had I started Karate earlier in life.

I trained in other styles and boxed for many years. None of that training
stacks up to the rigorous training provided by the Academy of Loei-Kan
Karate-Do. By varying our training I have learned how to fight on my feet and
on the ground. I can punch, kick, grapple, and throw. The pure nature of the
combative portion of our training has been enlightening.

There are numerous martial arts school out there, and many will teach you how
to fight. Very few, however, teach you how to be a warrior. That is what
distinguishes Koei-Kan from so many others! It is a complete, traditional
system that is effective for self- defense -- as opposed to competion -- and
the teaching methods instill a mindset that not only foster confidence, but
refuse to accept failure...

I joined the Koei-Kan Karate-do Academy after I met Sensei Mason. I knew after
the introduction that this was the school for me. It looked tough. Sensei was
tough and told me it would be. Its turned out to be the best thing I've ever
done for myself...

I needed to find someone who would help build self-esteem in both my girls as
well as teach them to protect themselves. Sensei Mason made me feel that it was
just as impotant to him as it was to me. I was very impressed with the
enthusiasm of Sensei Mason and Sempai Bernard. The way they instruct and work
with children as well as the way they conduct their classes.

I was impressed with the amount of individual attention and emphasis on
technical detail I received during my first instruction. These things in
combination had me hooked.

I selected the Academy of Koei-Kan Karate-Do because it apeared to offer a
serious combat training situation that would motivate me to pursue increased
physical conditioning. The Academy has exceeded my expections and I cannot
imagine why one would train at any other school.
